A Message from the Executive Director of VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services

Written by Deacon Gerard Jablonowski

September is National Healthy Aging Month and this month we at VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services are focusing our efforts at supporting you, our Senior Citizens, to help live healthy lives as you age, and dispel any myth that getting older automatically means poor health and limited abilities.

It is a well know fact that plenty of older adults enjoy vigorous health, often better than many younger people.   And some simple lifestyle changes like mild exercise, healthy eating, proper sleep and maintaining a positive attitude while managing the changes in your life that are often seen as stressful, can help reduce the risk of illness or injury or reduce the effects of an already existing chronic illness.

In our Health Notes section of the website we have a few tips that help get you started or better direct you along an already started course to fitness and good health.  They are designed to raise awareness and provide you a simple set of guidelines and ideas that may be helpful in motivating and encouraging you toward a life of health, wholeness, and happiness as you grow older and wiser.  And always remember to check with your doctor before starting any exercise program or radical changes in your diet.  Your physician can help you determine what may work best for you, given your current physical condition and health status.

As a special event this month, VITALity is hosting a Healthy Aging and Wellness Fair on September 24, 2016, at Haven House, 676 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, New Jersey.  This event is free and open to the public to come and learn more about staying fit and healthy.  We will have health screenings and flu shots available while providing some great entertainment and food.  I hope you can join us.  (See flyer with more information)

So as we now approach the end of summer and look forward to the changing leaves of Autumn, let’s all recommit our efforts to maintain our health and well being.

We wish you well and may God continue to bless you as you seek His companionship on your journey to good health.
